Slang Translation: Stick your head in the sand = Its not an Australian saying, but I don't know if its well known or not. It means to ignore a problem/situation
Dunno = Don't know
Shitload = Heaps/Many
'Em = Them
Scored = In this context it means 'got'

Love to hate. Lawton reminds me of one of those old codgers that thinks they know best in every situation yet persistently ask for help and make it sound as if they're helping you out by asking you to do something for them. Imagine a child falling and cutting open their knee, only to be told to "walk it off" when we know reasonably that infection is possible, yet their "old world wisdom" blinds them to the application of methods that actually work. On that note, I'm sure he reminds several people of their own grandfather or neighborhood "old guy" that parents demand you assist. In any case, I love to hate the guy yet I wonder if his continued existence is even necessary; Just how much leadership capability and strategy DOES he bring to the table of elders? If I were Brand- or anyone in that society for that matter- I'd off anyone over a certain age to minimize consumption of resources and increase productivity, because I doubt Lawton does anything other than sit on his ass (as I can notice from his particularly plump frame) and bitch. I don't think anyone would miss him if he were to... oh, I don't know, feed the dogs? *phew*

Thanks for thoughts Cide, nice to know people are really getting into it! :-D

I’ll comment as best I can without giving anything coming soon away. I’d say keep reading the next few pages, as this argument between Brand and Lawton is a bit of an information dump RE the state of Kranburn and its people.

Also, Kranburn is a pretty peaceful place all in all so killing the oldies is most likely never going to happen. Also, Lawton’s pretty sure Brand is seeing his Daughter Silvia, so there’s another level as to why Lawton may be biased towards disliking anything Brands says automatically so to speak.

Couple other things but yeah, I’ll let them reveal themselves when they appear in the comic. :-D

But having said all that: Yes, he's not supposed to be a favourite character. :-P
